Cga Keen Beta realeased!

Post by Quirky Moron »

I've decided to make a mod called "cga keen" It's a mod where someone steals the solar systems colour. (I know it sounds stupid...) In the first episode, keen must collect the four 32,000,000 colour objects that are still in true colour. In the second episode, keen must destroy the "colour stealing rays." In the third and final episode, keen mustdestroy the main control, making the world get its "32,000,000 colour" back. The only problem is, I need a program that can draw in cga. (note: the pole is for if you think it's a good idea)

You've got a few options, all of which involve using an ordinary bitmap editor:

The CGA palette (actually, one of them) used the four colours: black, cyan, magenta, and white. These colours are also in the standard EGA palette (#s 0, 11, 13, and 15). You could draw your pictures using these only.

Alternatively (and perhaps better), you could use the palette patch that was posted a while back in the Keen:Vorticons forum, changing most of the colours to be different shades of the CGA colours (so that you have a *bit* more choice in drawing the pictures), keeping a few colours for the final images and the goal items.

It sounds like a good idea... But, saving 32 million colours in a 16 colour game? Not sure how you'll pull that off :P.

If you can though, it sounds interesting...

If you think it's dead, well, how can I put this? You're wrong because not to long ago I started it, and I'm already done two levels. I'm also done: the keen frozen sprite, the small robot sprite, the keen map sprite, some of the robot sprite, and a lot of the tiles. I should have a beta out soon.

Thanks :) I think the beta is really close to coming out, because I just finished the yorp sprite.

A good mod is like diarrhoea, you just can't keep it in.

I think it's a cute idea--and I agree with Andy's suggestion to use the color changing patch. Glad to hear you're making progress... got any teaser screenshots? ;-)

Neato! ;)

Ah, really cool! I just played it, though I couldn't finish the second level without cheats. Maybe that's because I'm kinda tired (it's 00:47 am, not much, but I'm still tired)..
Gotta say, looks promising, though not sure maybe that black-white background should be more mono-coloured; let's say, four 8 x 8 blocks, like
white black
black white ?
That one pixel thing hurts eyes a bit..
But overall, very nice idea, and it really brings the classic CGA feeling! :)
Edit:Feel free to put it on your website.
I was going to ask that; I'll put it on my site When It's Done (tm). :)

Aiieee! the swirling colour the... oh I'm off medication again.

Niiiiiiice! Really inventive use; when Id did CGA they made many things illegible. It must be difficult to keep all that contrast with only 4 colours.

ALl in all it should have that same bluey-purple feeling of CGA Keen 4

As for the quotes KeenRush, I'm a pretentious loudmouth who has to get the last word in every time.
