Keen Dreams I'd say, but it doesn't have the pogo. :(

I love Keen 4... currently making a level pack. Fun to work with, even though we can't edit graphics yet :).

The best mod doesn't depend on the game you use, but the talent of the creator.

I chose them all!

only one would be the best, which is true for anything

Keen6 because the overall goal is to reach a certain point and there are multiple things you can do with the map. Why not keen4? Because you have to run into eight sprites to finish. Why not Keen5? Because you have to destroy four devices with your of all things pogo. Why not Keen1 through 3? Limited. Why not Keen Dreams? There's no pogostick, not to mention collecting bombs as a goal sounds boring.

I'd second joseph there... he does have a good point. Keen2, for instance, has 8 cities to save, which you somehow have to work into your mod (like that one mod with the 8 planets to save). Keen6 has a single goal, and the three items to discover on the way can be easily manipulated, or not used at all. The rope can be a bridge, the sandwich can be a master key for a door, and the rocket keycard could possibly be a key to the entrance of a secret level.

Agree, Keen 6 is pretty good, it's the most "interactive" of them all.

Keen 3 is also similar, but without the optional extras

Keen 6 would still be the best though

True... and Keen 3 has the teleporters to play with and manipulate.

Nevertheless, in Keens 4-6, you have sloped backgrounds. That could a very nice thing to have in a mod (the lack of slopes in Keen 1-3 was the entire reason I chose Lego for my Keen mod).

Ilsoap, Ilsoap.. Don't forget the lifts/elevators, temporary God-mode, two ammo tiles (other can be used for some other stuff), bridges, lights and cool enemies. ;)
I prefer block-style.

The only complaint I have for the potential modding of Keen3 is that most enemies have only 2 frames of animation--that is extremely limiting. It's hard enough to mod the Keen1 vorticon because of how often he uses his "jump" frames--I can only imagine the horror of trying to make a replacement for the Vorticon Mothers. Yikes!

That being said, does anyone know just how much you can manipulate the ending conditions for Keen3? Or is the Mangling Machine pretty much hard-coded as is? If my Keen2 mod ever finishes up, I'll eventually investigate a Keen3 one :-)

A key patch for a Keen3 mod (in my eyes) would be to slow the speed of the Balls and Jacks...

But as far as pure versatility goes, I'm gonna have to agree that Keen3 offers a heap of possibilities--6 different backgrounds and a good variety of enemies, regardless of animation.

But something about the Keen2 scrub just sells me ;-)

Yeah, they're way too fast!

I haven't ever tried modding Keen 2 or 3, all my mods (current and all those stopped ones) have been in Keen 1. I don't know about next, probably I will have fun with Keen 2. :)
