Sounds of Keen 6 flames and pounders

The flame jets/exhausts and downward pounders in Keen 6 (most easily seen in Bloogton Manufacturing) make a sound when they extend if they're on-screen. The weird thing is that I can't find anything special about those tiles in the tileinfo, nor does there appear to be anything invisible in the level near them. The sound for the flamethrowers plays multiple times really quickly in the bottom of the level where there's the group of four, so the sound is clearly dependent on the animation. So I'm curious: what makes these particular tiles produce sounds?

The game is hardcoded to produce a sound whenever the animated tile array contains a pointer to a specific tile. (For the pounders for example it's the most extended bottom of the pounder tile.) This makes it very tricky to change since it's only responding to one tile and then only when it's animated to.
