Palette colour values

Post by KeenRush »

This is not really a patch I'm asking...
Any chance anyone has those palette colour values that are used to change the border colours and, I think, the palettes (I don't mean making all new colours but the palettes used for example when Keen flicks lightswitch). In the old topic about border colours there's a picture with colour and its corresponding value, but that picture seems not to be online anymore.

For some reason, my computer never shows the borders in Keen.

If you've got an LCD, you'll never see it -- the border was the "overscan", the area of the CRT which the electron gun would scan before and after the pixel data -- sort of an implementation detail of CRT screens.

So it's an artifact of older screens and we'll see it disappear over time?

Yes its an artifact of CRT monitors. The 'border' or 'overscan' is only applicable to CRT monitors. LCD/TFT monitors have 0% overscan.
For details see: http://www.vga-avr.narod.ru/vga_timing/vga_timing.gif

Televisions are a different species when it comes to overscan and this article should help you understand that fact: http://herrklein.com/2006/09/designing-for-television/

And I always wondered why DOSBox didn't display the border color while XP did.
