One problem with using the pogo tiles as removable walls is that they don't act as an obstacle when they're shot at. Perhaps there's a bit of code we can insert to make bullets collide with the pogo tile even if it is not set to block from that direction?
And indeed if that can be done, perhaps it can be extended to include all sprites except Keen's?

I did some work on CKMB last night, and noticed that with one-way tiles (ie. left or right set to block and the others off), if Keen is on the tile and fires toward the blocked side, the bullet explodes. Or something to that effect--it didn't occur to me at the time to further experiment.
So at least when there's only one way into an area of a maze Keen can be prevented from firing into it until the pogo tiles are removed.
