First of all; why does this topic try to relocate me to the K:M main?!?!

Second; I couldn't get it working either, but maybe I have wrong Keen 1 here -- I'm not home now and don't have much time here anymore, so I'll try it when I get home.

I did though... maybe something's defunky. I'll keep messing around until something works.

If you are using the older version of ckpatch, remive the %version 1.31 line or change it to %version 1.3

Or, just use the newer ckpatch.

I've never bothered to investigate into DOS display modes, since 32-bit stuff like DirectX always interested me more. Now loading keen1.exe...

Sweeet. If only it were possible to do something useful with this...

Okay, I got it working; I see the car, but I don't particularly notice any color superlativeness.

It's very possible to do something with this; it's more a question of whether or not any of us can figure it out. Andy explained that it's just using 4 shades of green with 6 red and 6 blue that are tricking our eye into seeing multiple colors. So if anybody wanted to use the palette patch to do the same thing, and then designed their whole mod with this "one row green layer, one row red/blue layer" it could definitely LOOK like there were more than 16 colors. Especially if you used DOSBox to blur the crap out of everything. :-)

Intriguing indeed.

Hmm... could've sworn I was using the latest CK1patch... must've torn it from an old mod or something.

The demo runs properly now. I still don't entirely understand how it works, but 'tis surely a step toward greater colour depth. Nice work.

Can someone post a screenshot for those who are too unwilling (read: lazy) to download it?

This is a very clever realistic effect, but it's hard to imagine making a mod using it. The resolution you would actually get to use would be halved for a start, and sprites would need to be very big to look realistic.

Not to mention the horrible flickering effect that you see when the screen scrolls vertically....

I agree with Ilsoap. Unless screenshots turn out looking, well, "unimpressive," somebody please post one!
