Can't you just edit the extracted images you are referring to, and import them again?

I don't think anybody figured out how to properly extract the palette for a few non-level images though.
Apparently they were programmed slightly differently.
For instance take a look at Keen 4's "4BMP0102".
The pixels that are supposed to be gray (I think) are shown in purple.
Since it still uses a palette, just remember the place of the colour you need in the right palette, and use the (wrong) colour from the same place in the image.
Once you upload, it should show correctly in-game.

I remember racing through a thread were somebody asked about the purple colour, probably either here or on CC314's forum, but I can't seem to find it right now.

I haven't tried the mod yet, but the screenshot looks really cool.

Regarding Retodon8's post: It would be a nice feature if Modkeen changed the palette for those images for you when exporting, and then changed it back when importing...

^ Yeah, indeed.

Anyways, yeah, some of those pictures seem to have different palette or something like that, which probably can't be easily changed.

I don't know how hard it is to program something like the thing I suggested, but in theory Modkeen would just need extra code that loads a different palette for the few specific images that uses this other palette, so the outputted BMPs would look like they do in-game. And, of course, also some more new code when importing.

I forgotten the keen5.pat?? I'll take a look.
Yes it is missing. I'll upload a new version.
... done: http://www.plsplayer.de/ckmods/urarck5b.exe
There are a few fixes, too. Keen is now blue, too.

Edit: Someone should only add some palettes for each episode
to the game. I use corel draw for editing the palettes in ck.
I'd made a palette called EGA.CPL.
CPL = Corel Palette or so it has nothing to do with the Control
Panel DLL's on NT4.0 or higher.

Start my mod an look at the Controlpanel before game start.
The Text is still in green and some lines are green, too.
That's my problem. I can't find any BMP I'd exported with
modkeen, where I can change this :o(. There are misterious
.BIN files. I can not determine the use of thoose.

There are at least two pallettes used in the game, and andy as far as I know has not found the location of the second one.

These exe's are DOS compatible RAR selfextractors. I'm waiting

I think somebody is confused here, and it might be me, but...

All Keen games use 1 palette for the actual levels, and all games use exactly the same palette too.
Apparently K456 have some menu screens and the like that have their palettes stored differently, but since I don't recall seeing any different colours than the ones in the actual games, they must actually also be the exact same palettes if you'd look at the actual colours.
I'm not sure why id couldn't just use the regular way, but whatever.

So Boeing747, there is no need to extract a palette for all the games, as they all use the same one, and that is already known:
viewtopic.php?t=60
You can also capture a screen with DOSBox and use Paint Shop Pro, or even IrfanView to take a look at the palette.
Of course the special screens are still different, but since palettes are indexed like I wrote in my previous post, it's not really a big problem.

The mod you made doesn't actually change the palette.
You may have used some kind of palette loading action in your drawing programme, but once you import your images back into the game, they'll still be using Keen's default palette.
The shades of blue as Keen's shades of blue.
Well, there's what I know.
If it is me that is confused, do tell! :)

Hm okay it is not the palette. But i can not find the Main menu bitmaps.
Have you noticed the wrong colors in the main menu? Start the Paddle war
and you see the ball is drawing the old dark grey background.

There are two different issues at work here:

1. Different palettes are used through the game: the "Terminator"-style opening sequence has its own palette (specially constructed to enable the effect), and the "Star Wars"-scroller screen also has its own palette. The rest of the game uses a single ordinary 16 colour palette with a few darker palettes for the fading effect.

2. The index of the colours used for drawing text in the menus, and for erasing the ball and paddles in Paddlewar! are hard-coded; for example, the latter is 8 (dark grey in the default palette).
