About UNLZEXE

Post by Grimson »

How exactly do I UNLZEXE any Keen game EXE file, when I'm using Windows 7? I can't just run the program, and I suck at using DOSBox (always using DOSShell).

In DOSBox:

Code: Select all

Z:\>mount c "C:\the directory\the game is in"
Z:\>c:
C:\>unlzexe keen1.exe
Should do the trick.

It would be nice if there was a way to it natively, but we are dealing with obsolete software here.

1.) Click KEEN1.EXE
2.) Drag and drop it on UNLZEXE
3.) If successful you'll see KEEN1.OLD in your folder.

Works with Vista, so should be ok, unless Windows 7 is even more DOS hostile. (Like it doesn't run UNLZEXE at ALL.)

Nope, I did try that before, but like you said W7 doesn't run UNLZEXE at all >_>

That is the problem I see here...

Sorry, if I have to talk about this, but I created a newer version of UNLZEXE. It's a bit faster and runs on any operating system, regardless if 64 or 32-bit. I wrote about it some months ago, but nobody was interested.

It's the version 0.81 and it can handle Keen1-6 as other games. both signatures (90 and 91) are supported. If you interested I can send you a copy and you don't have to mess around with dosbox. If someone else want to have it, I can also distribute it. The lack of intereset has been holding me back in uploading it.

I don't remember any mention of this. It would be a very handy tool. Do make it available!

Well, viewtopic.php?t=1310 for the mention of it. It was in the Keen: Coding section of this forum. I love to see this stuff progress, so this is cool with me.

Sorry guys, but you hurt my feelings. So I am ... , you know what, and not going to release it..... :-(

Just kidding! Here it is: :-D

http://sourceforge.net/projects/clonekeenplus/files/

Here is the file tree of the Commander Genius Project. Just open "Tools->unlzexe" and pick it for your system. Have fun!

Also check out the readme file before you use it. Don't worry, it's very easy.
