I almost got through level2 this time - almost...

The theme is indeed more consistent than Keen -6, but I can't say much about the level design as I've only seen 2 of them. Level 2 seems to be cleverly arranged, but sadly too hard for me.

Reading that, I see you can be annoyingly persistent. But that seems to be the right way with Tom, nobody ever before has come that close to the keen source. Congrats pizza2004, if it really works out you'll enter the keen community's hall of fame!

Aha, I believe this might solve an issue I had in Silcar4 beta. I tried to make the butler freeze keen, but it disappeared when offscreen, which had something to do with the icecube code. Now we can have freezing monsters in Keen 1!

The normal lick has just too many wrinkles imo. It works for the king, and you don't see them on the helmeted lick (which looks awesome btw), but I would suggest to remove some of those wrinkle details on the normal one. Also your frames let the lick breathe fire when he jumps, yet the original one ...

I can see that you used an orange or light brown colour for the earth holes on the right. This colour is not part of the standard keen palette.

We definetly need to use all those slugs, the small and the big ones.
I also like that walking octopus. I'm very interested to see which ones of those monsters we can actually make happen in the end via patches.
I guess the frog generator might only be practical if the little frogs aren't deadly.

Well actually it's 56 pixels. My bonecar sprite has a total of 168 pixels in width, that is 3 times 56 for normal, mask and hitbox.

I've had problems with the maximum size limit of sprites before, but as far as I can see you're sprites haven't exceeded that limit.
If you want to see a maximum width sprite in Keen 1 try Silcar 4. The bone car there is the maximum I got to work without special patches.
