Anyone still have these old ckpatch/dn1edit files?
Hi all, I've added a couple of websites to archive.shikadi.net as I think they are worth preserving and have otherwise disappeared off the web. Unfortunately however a couple of the files included on the sites were never archived online or by myself, so I'm wondering whether anyone here might happen...

Not sure whether it applies on this forum but most require at least one post, just as an anti-spam measure. So the bots probably post once or twice assuming that's enough, without actually bothering to check if there's a limit or what the limit is. I've seen some forums where you can't post a link u...

There's an alternate download available on the Camoto Studio GitHub releases page, perhaps that will work then?

I've created some instructions to help explain the map editor a bit - see Getting Started with Camoto Studio.
I'm not sure a mirror would help - if your browser won't let you download .exe files I don't think it matters where they come from!

New Camoto version (v1.2 / 2015-02-21)
Hi all, I realise this is technically off-topic as Camoto doesn't edit Commander Keen (yet) but I hope it's of enough interest that you will excuse me :-) I just wanted to mention that I have released an updated Windows version of Camoto ( v1.2 / 2015-02-21 installer here ) for anyone who is interes...

SGA text-mode font
Hi all, I'm not sure I've seen this done before in a mod, so if anyone is interested in a bit of a gimmick, I've designed an SGA font for VGA text mode. This allows you to change the glyphs displayed during the opening and ending parts of the games, like this: http://www.shikadi.net/pckf/keen4_intro...

Well I did some investigating and it turns out this isn't necessary. There are two much smaller utilities (less than 1000 bytes each) that can set the VGA palette from the command line, and also deactivate the resetting of the palette when the video mode changes. In short, these let you change the K...

You know it might be worth doing this as a utility rather than a patch. You could write a small program that would load the palette from a file, then hook the video interrupt and reset the palette after each mode change. Then you wouldn't have to patch anything and it would work with any DOS game th...

Very true, but that would involve relying on someone else! I figured if I explained how to do it manually then anyone can do it themselves. But fair point - so I made the flags available as Camoto map attributes: http://www.shikadi.net/pics/camoto/camoto-20131029-cosmo_map_attributes.png Interesting...
