Re: Can't Save on my Computer

There's a new version of Abiathar out that adds logging here. Please try again, and if the saving fails, upload the log file's contents to PasteBin or some similar service. Also, if you have access to any other computers, you might test on those to see if anything different happens. Another question...

Thanks for the reminder, I've pasted the PCKF version over this one.

Re: Can't Save on my Computer

Very interesting. I am still unable to reproduce the problem on my computer. The next version of Abiathar (to be released within a couple days) will have logging for this procedure so I'll be able to see what exactly is going wrong. In the meantime, please test with this workspace I set up for you. ...

Re: Can't Save on my Computer

I'm sorry, I'm still not able to reproduce this problem. I'm not sure exactly what's going on, so I'll ask a few more questions that might help. Did you happen to change the names of any of the levels? What is your operating system version (e.g. Windows 7)? Starting fresh, does the error occur if yo...

Re: Can't Save on my Computer

Hmm, the default settings work for me, even after moving the levels around. Does the same error occur if you just create a new project and save immediately? If you have a project open that you don't want to close, you can launch a new copy of Abiathar to test. Also, what specifically is the path whe...

Re: Can't Save on my Computer

Welcome to Keen Modding!

I assume this error comes from Abiathar. Could you please tell me which episode you are trying to mod and what settings you chose in the New Project Wizard? Also, what is the path of the folder you are saving in? It's possible that special characters might be causing trouble.

Re: Which is the best level editing program?

For Vorticons, I would choose Mindbelt. The "magic" tool is amazingly helpful for beginners making level packs. There are a handful of Mindbelt versions floating around that are adapted to various situations (e.g. KeenGraph, the V2 patch), so once you learn the interface, you can work with all the d...

Re: KeenGraph with Keen 4-6 CGA version support

Weird; I'm not noticing such problems here. Does any error come up when you access the PCKF, or is it just blank? If there's an error when posting, please note the URL and any error message. Reports can go in the General forum or be e-mailed to <my username at this domain>. Does ModId support CGA? I...

Re: Welcome to the migrated Keen: Modding forum!

It appears that such functionality can only be had by installing modifications to phpBB. I can't even find a global setting (other than editing the PHP code). There is at least one mod that adds these controls, but I'm not entirely comfortable with running third-party code on this server. Also, this...

Re: How to change dimensions of an enemy?

You can change the height of the bitmap to whatever you like. The width of the sprite must be a multiple of 8 because of how the EGA format works, therefore the bitmap's width must be a multiple of 24. The first third is the image, the center is the mask, and the right third is the clipping rectangl...

Re: How to modify graphics in your own mod?

(Thread moved from Theory.) If you're using ModKeen, there are three parts to an exported sprite: the image itself, the mask, and the clipping rectangle. The mask must line up with the image so that the whole black background doesn't show up in-game. Of course, this can be rather finicky to do by ha...

Re: ERROR: Unable to open .\EGAHEAD.4: Secret of the Oracle for writing!

You can delete that small EGAHEAD.CK4; it was just to test that the folder can be written to. It's possible the space in that path might be causing issues, though I can't reproduce such behavior. Maybe try renaming that outer folder to something 8 characters or less and with no spaces involved? I di...

Re: ERROR: Unable to open .\EGAHEAD.4: Secret of the Oracle for writing!

EGAHEAD.CK4 should be created on the first import; apparently something else is amiss. Please try this command in DOSBox to try to manually create an empty file by that name: echo.> EGAHEAD.CK4 If that runs without errors, run this to remove that little file: del EGAHEAD.CK4 If the first command fai...

Re: ERROR: Unable to open .\EGAHEAD.4: Secret of the Oracle for writing!

Welcome to Keen Modding! Just so we're on the same page, I'm testing this in DOSBox with ModKeen 2.0.1 . I'm using this command to import: modkeen -import -episode=4 -bmpdir=BMP I get this error when EGAHEAD.CK4 is marked read-only. Could you please check that file's properties? Also try restarting ...
