HT Editor, a hex editor that understands EXEs and assembly

Post by Dr. Kylstein »

I have recently discovered a program called HT Editor. It can function as hex editor, but more significantly it can decode DOS executables. The same way some hex editors provide an ASCII reading in a side panel, HTE can identify header fields and assembly instructions and display them next to the hex values. I've only used it a little bit, but it seems to work pretty well on the unpacked KEEN1.EXE. It's free and GPL and available from http://hte.sourceforge.net/ or the Ubuntu repository.

This is neat! For somebody like me who's just started reverse-engineering games, it's great to have two programs in one! I'm downloading that sucker NOW.

F1, or Alt+H -> H, or by clicking on the help menu, if your terminal supports it.
