Music?

Post by T-Squared »

Anyone need MIDI music? I can contribute if you need music. :D I've already composed some for my Cosmo mod, but I can help when needed. :D

Sooner or later we will, and there's 36 possible songs.

I'd be happy to contribute as well. Now, what are the limitations? Same as Galaxy?

I don't know if Lemm addressed this, but the TSR I have sets a limit of 32Kb for IMF files.

Right, there is a limit, although it could be adjusted if necessary.

Just an idle thought, but if the TSR also polled the player coordinates in the map it would be possible to have interactive music. You could change to a spooky tune mid-level as you enter a dark, scary area of the level...

Indeed, I was considering making it poll ship parts collected and cities saved.

As a side note, I have some space for music in my mod if there's any midis or such that people want to hear in a Keen game.

@Lemm: If it polled ship parts, what would this do? Would it change the map music only to reflect this? It would be a shame to have level music set to just one song after you got a part. How hard is it to make it poll other variables?

I imagine it would only change the song depending on these factors if the current level is 80.

It could change the song right away, like the council member song for keen4. Of course I don't know if this would lag the game any so maybe it might not work... will have to experiment.

I'm no Bobby Prince, but if anybody wants to recruit me to do sound effects or music, I'm game. I'm real excited about these area sounds! Things like the Council Member music are just the tip of the iceberg!

I have come across a few limitations to the TSR:

* On slower systems it causes the game to lag. This shouldn't be any problem on newer systems though.
* The TSR 'clicks' when switching songs, and sometimes when looping a song. Probably unavoidable.
* Fast paced songs slow down, go choppy or drop notes. (See the Cosmo song MBANJO.IMF...)
* The TSR crashes if a song with no file is in the song list, with no explanation.
* The TSR doesn't seem to play type-0 IMFs
