I get baffled at the number of people who manage to confuse memory and hard disk space, especially since there's no real ambiguity. The issue is still a mystery to me, however. My only advice is to grab either KeenGraph or LModKeen, which should work around whatever issues may arise from running a 1...

Level entry messages can be modified with simple patches. And yeah, you can use the sprites for difficulty levels that aren't visible on the tileset. Just click on the tile where they should be.

While the right-to-left-ness of it adds some originality, it's still largely monotonous. Platforms vary little in height, and it's basically just a straight line to the exit.

Beeecause NetKeen is only based on a disassembly of Keen 5. The actual program is made up of Wolf3D source code with Keen 5 routines smushed in to form some unholy fusion. There aren't any "patches", merely new C code that it would be a pain in the ass to port to assembly.

Well, to get TOM to load the tile images, you need to create a new folder in the folder containing the gamemaps files. Inside this folder you need to place the tile bitmaps, which I think can be found in the NetKeen graphics pack in the post over at PCKF. Doing this will let TOM find and load them. ...

First up, you're gonna want The Omegamatic. It's a far better map editor than K:N, or so I am led to believe. Onve you've made them, you'll need to integrate the tileinfo or some crap and I have no clue how to do that. Someone more experienced on the matter than me can kindly drop in below.

Uh, it has a perfectly good line tool. Hold... shift? I think it's shift, while using the pencil tool. LINES

Squares are easy to construct manually. Circles... you might be able to get away with manually stroking a circular selection.

Flash has effective tools for working with /vector/ images. It is completely, utterly unsuited to working with sprites. Plus, I think we're kind of aiming for free tools.

Personally, I use GIMP. It allows for easy editing of multiple open files and handles palettes without problem. Dunno about automated shading, but in my experience shading needs tuning by hand anyway. Not really sure what you mean by your 3rd point, so...

The trick there lies in flouting the rules in such a way that it still manages to work, of course.

Dividing by effect seems best, especially as these could be further divided into episode for ambiguous patches. (On first thought by episode seemed best, but considering that numerous patches/elements are consistent across episodes, effects seems best)
